EARLY * SALAD GREENS: Black Seeded Simpson Lettuce is a fine loose heading variety which has very light green, frilled and crumpled leaves with a fringed edge. Black Seeded Simpson Lettuce forms a compact bunch of crisp brittle leaves of excellent flavor in a remarkably short span of time. Very early lettuce variety.

SOWING ... Sow lettuce seed outdoors as early as the ground can be worked. Plant in rows 15 inches apart, spacing seeds 1 inch apart in the row. Cover seed with 1/4 inch of fine soil, well pressed down. Keep soil moist until seeds start to grow.

THINNING ... When lettuce plants are 3 to 4 inches tall, thin to 6 to 8 inches apart.

GERMINATION ... Black Seeded Simpson Lettuce seed germinates in 7 to 10 days depending on soil temperature and weather conditions.

SOWING ... Plant Buttercrunch Lettuce seed indoors 8 to 10 weeks before danger of frost is past. Buttercrunch Lettuce may also be started outdoors 2-3 weeks before frost free date. Plant seed 1/2 inch apart in rows 3 feet apart, covering lettuce seed with 1/8 inch fine soil, well pressed down.

THINNING ... When Buttercrunch Lettuce plants are 2 to 4 inches tall, thin to 2 inches apart. Transplant lettuce in open, in rows 2 feet apart, spacing plants 6 inches apart in the row.

SOWING ... Plant seed outdoors as soon as the ground can be worked. Plant in rows 4 to 6 inches apart, spacing seeds thinly in the row. Can also be broadcast thinly in a section of the garden. Cover the seed with 1/4 inch of fine soil, well pressed down. Keep soil moist until the seeds start to grow.

Can also be broadcast thinly in a section of the garden. Cover the seed with 1/4 inch of fine soil, well pressed down. Keep soil moist until the seeds start to grow.

GERMINATION ... Mesclun Salad Greens seed mixture germinates in 7 to 14 days depending an soil temperature and weather conditions.
